Every working girl dreams of having a dedicated work-from-home space to get all the items on their to-do list done. This is even truer for families with children. Without a home office, parents will often get little to no work done when the kids decide to blast loud music while doing their homework.
Featuring a home office design of a four-storey townhouse in Quezon City that we recently developed for a family with two teenage boys, we share the top interior design ideas that will be beneficial in situations like this.
Keep it clean…
A tidy home office is conducive to thinking. Since our clients wanted to incorporate a modern classical home interior design, making the room white with wall panelings is perfect for this home office. Touches of a luxurious rug and gold accents add a more classic look and sophisticated flare. The dark wood finish of the doorways completes the entire look of this home office design.
…and bright
Nobody can work effectively in a dark room! Have at least one window to bring in natural light during the day and install enough light fixtures to illuminate your entire home office. Adding a lamp is the best functional decorative element you can have on your desk. You can also incorporate accent lighting in your home office design to brighten up every space of the room.
Install built-in shelves
The concept of “less is more” should be applied in home office designs. Shelves keep everything in your home office neat and organized. Built-in shelves are customized to your needs and design specifications.
Our clients for this project are business owners. With this lifestyle, they require a lot of storage space for the small bottles and other products that they produce. The cabinetries in their home office serve this purpose best.
And a corkboard—or a cork wall
It will be easier to track down all your goals and to-do lists when you have access to a corkboard. In this case, it’s even more functional and aesthetically pleasing when it has a specific spot in your home office design, propped up to a wall.
In this particular home office, it would seem difficult to reach the cork wall as it is located far away from the desk. To resolve this, pay attention to how the cabinet was customized in a way that makes the end of the console (where the cork wall is located) double as a mounted desk. Below it is a free space for the leg room if you choose to add a chair and use that spot as your makeshift workstation. Smart interior design technique, right?
Mix up your patterns
Yes, you’d love to keep your home office design fresh, clean, and tidy, but you don’t want it to look dull and boring. The purpose of a home office is to be productive, not to be a snooze fest! So mix up your whites with different patterns to breathe life into the space.
As you can see in this home office, we incorporated a play in various shapes, patterns, and finishes in the designs of the desk and chairs. The design of the area rug is also a complete contrast to the flooring. Although they are all different, they all look cohesive and blend well with each other.
Take a break!
You are your own boss at home, but remember that you are at home, so take a break from work every once in a while. The mounted TV in this home office offers the chance to unwind after a stressful Zoom meeting. Or better yet, go rest in the master’s bedroom next door and take a quick nap to power you through the rest of your to-do list.
