3 IEO Projects to Inspire You to Invest in Smart Designs for Small Homes

Due to economic reasons, small homes, apartments, and condominiums remain a trend this 2022. When you have a smaller space, you need to be smarter and more strategic in your home interior design. You’d need a dedicated space for everything, but at the same time, you would not want your space to appear cluttered.

Designing small homes is a fun challenge for home interior design experts like IEO Interior Design & Construction. We use our expertise in realizing the vision of every client’s dream home makeover with a focus on sustainability and functionality in an elegant and classic layout.

Planning to design your small space?

To help you get started, here are four tips from IEO’s design experts for a small home interior design.

IEO understands how daunting it could be to design small homes. It requires more planning and technical know-how to make the small space appear much bigger. To help you get started, here are four tips from IEO’s design experts for a small home interior design:

1. Choose neutral colors

Lighter and cooler-colored walls affect the perspective, tricking the eye into making a space appear larger than it actually is.

It is common knowledge that lighter and cooler-colored walls affect the perspective, tricking the eye into making a space appear larger than it actually is. It reflects light rather than absorbs it, making the room appear brighter and airier as well.

Perfect options for the dominating color of a room are white, beige, and light gray, as well as cool colors like pale blue or green. IEO loves a monochromatic-themed home interior design because of how it emanates not only luxury, but also timelessness.

2. Use more mirrors

Mirrors create an illusion of depth. Much like a light-colored room, mirrors reflect light and spaces across a room which makes the vicinity look bigger.

One of IEO’s tricks is using a glass tabletop. The transparency of a glass tabletop does not add heaviness that a typical wooden table does. Instead, it gives an impression of wider space even when there isn’t simply because you can see the floors through them.

3. Think bigger

Although using bigger furniture pieces seems contradicting to your goal of saving space, it actually gives a sense of grandeur.

Although using bigger furniture pieces seems contradicting to your goal of saving space, it actually gives a sense of grandeur. It’s all about creating a focal point where your eyes will focus on.

For a small bedroom, use a big bed. For a small living room, use a big sofa. For a small dining room, use a longer, yet narrower dining table. Decorate with big framed photos in the living room or bedroom, or use a huge mirror in a compact bathroom.

4. Maximize your wall space

For small homes, it is important to keep your floor space open to keep that illusion of more space. To do that, you have to maximize the use of your wall space.

Mount your TV instead of using a console table that will eat a lot of space. Use a built-in desk wall in the corner of your room as your workstation instead of placing heavy furniture that adds depth to a room.

5. Take advantage of architectural structures

Some rooms have odd angles due to architectural designs. Instead of hiding it with unnecessary nooks and crannies, turn it into a functional space like a workstation or a properly designed storage space.

Let us show you how it’s done

Still easier said than done? We’ll show you three projects by IEO Interior Design & Construction to better help you get interior design ideas for your 2022 home makeover goals.

Chimes Greenhills

This two-bedroom condominium unit looks more spacious than its 73 square meter-floor size. IEO did the full design and construction of this space, sticking to its passion for luxurious design with a purpose.

As you can see, the condominium unit followed a classic neutral theme with gold accents across all rooms for a more spacious feel. In addition to that, the floor-to-ceiling mirrors in the living room and in one of the bedrooms added depth to the rooms.

In the master’s bedroom, the use of a large bed with a big wall art above it created the perfect focal point that alluded to the illusion of a bigger room.

The kitchen counter can double as a bar area with the addition of the dining chairs.

The glass door of the bathroom creates an illusion of space as well, while the antique ceramic sink becomes the focal point of the small space.

Manansala Tower

This is the two-bedroom apartment of vlogger and influencer, Nicole Andersson. Unlike the signature classic monochrome theme that IEO is known for, the fashion maven wanted to transform her home into a tropical paradise.

Starting in the living room, all of her furniture pieces are multifunctional and easily movable due to the smaller space. The mounted TV actually has a rig so it could face either the living room or the adjacent dining room. The glass tabletop becomes the space-saver that this living room needs.

She opted for a longer, narrower dining table to save more space, but the ultimate illusionist in this room is her mirrored walls. The green seats and console table blend well with the theme.

In her bedroom, she opted to utilize almost the entire space with her bed. The grand bed made the room look more spacious. The gold accents in the headboard reflect the light, adding more illusion of space.

The other bedroom was turned into her walk-in closet. IEO’s important tip of advice here is to make use of full-length racks and curtains to make the room appear longer. It’s also vital to use multifunctional furnishings such as the center table that doubles as a storage unit.

Benitez Courtyard

IEO designed the house with a modern contemporary style that could ideally fit a family of six to eight persons.

This three-bedroom townhouse has a floor space of 200 square meters. IEO designed the house with a modern contemporary style that could ideally fit a family of six to eight persons.

Look at how the master’s bedroom made strategic use of the architectural quirk at the corner. IEO turned it into a beautiful storage space with the mounted TV to keep everything looking neat and simple. The built-in desk wall is a smart way to save floor space.

The living room and dining room look more spacious because of the use of neutral-colored furnishings with the combination of good lighting against the glossy walls and stylish mirrors.

The printed wall of the powder room steals the show. The elongated mirror added a depth that made the small space look bigger. The wooden floors and sink cabinet also complement the printed wall.
